SIKA® Sintex: The perfect canvas for your custom SSiC creations
SIKA Sintex is a versatile fine silicon carbide (SiC) powder, designed as a high-purity base material for creating customized formulations for solid-state sintered silicon carbide (SSiC).

With optimized particle size distribution, surface area, and purity, Sintex provides a reliable foundation for blending with your preferred sintering additives, binders, and pressing aids. Its flexibility makes it ideal for those who want complete control over their formulations, enabling the production of high-density, high-performance SSiC components tailored to your specific application requirements.
Production of SSiC components
Solid-State Sintered SiC (SSiC) parts are typically produced by blending high-purity silicon carbide powder with small amounts of boron and carbon to facilitate sintering. This mixture is then shaped into a “green” body through methods like uniaxial pressing, isostatic pressing, extrusion, or slip casting. After the initial forming stage, any binders or organic additives are burned out in a controlled atmosphere to prevent defects. Finally, the parts undergo pressureless sintering, usually at temperatures between 2100°C and 2200°C in an inert or vacuum environment, achieving near-theoretical density (above 98%). The resulting material exhibits excellent mechanical strength, thermal shock resistance, and corrosion resistance—all critical properties for high-performance ceramic applications.
Key features of SSiC components
Thermal shock resistance
SSiC components withstand rapid temperature changes without cracking or degrading, making them suitable for applications requiring high thermal cycling stability.
Exceptional Strength and Hardness
SSiC boasts unparalleled mechanical strength and a high hardness level, making it ideal for demanding applications like seals, bearings, and armor systems.
High Thermal Conductivity
With a thermal conductivity up to seven times higher than stainless steel, SSiC efficiently dissipates heat, enhancing performance in high-temperature environments.
Low Density for Lightweight Applications
With a density of approximately 3.1 g/cm³, SSiC provides a lightweight solution for aerospace, defense, and high-speed industrial components.
Superior Chemical Resistance
Resistant to a wide range of acids, alkalis, and corrosive agents, SSiC ensures reliability in harsh chemical and industrial environments.
